Lobstermen Getting Trapped By Prices

Postby 1timothy58 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 3:10 pm

So I have a problem with grocery stores that charge $30-$40 a pound for lobster and the fishemen are getting 2-3 dollars a pound (or about 7.5%!). Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure the most important part to eating a lobster is getting it out of the water!! So why do these grocery stores charge so much and the fishermen get such a small cut? If I were the fisherman getting that margin, I'd probably be opening up some super markets instead!

Albertsons has cooked 12-14oz lobsters for $4.99 right now, these are lobsters with claws. I think for live lobster, preserving them alive and air shipping them nationwide is a big part of the cost too. But let's face it, the way to economy is right now lobster demand has to be way down!

Albertsons? Thought they sold out to Publix. I miss them, they usually sold whole dolphin around this time of year for like $2.99 lb.
They say that the Blues and Gospel got together and had a baby. They named it Rock N Roll.
